Please join us for the Quantum Matter Seminar and a Special Seminar featuring Bruce Normand of the Paul Scherrer Institute tomorrow and Thursday. Both seminars will take place in the Smith Seminar Room. Below are the talk details:
* Wednesday, 2/27, 10:00-11:00 AM: "What's the Fuss About RuCI3?". The abstract is attached.
* Thursday, 2/28, 10:00-11:00 AM: Adventures in Mountaineering
o Information: Bruce has climbed K2 (8,611-meter (28,261 feet)), a mountain part of the Karakoram Range, which is on the eastern tip of the Himalayan Range, on the border between Pakistan and China. It is the second highest and one of the most dangerous peaks on Earth in the 8,000-meter range. To put this in perspective, Mount Everest, the world's tallest mountain at 8,848 meters (29,028 feet), had been attempted ~11,000 times, and 3,000 climbers had reached its summit (as of 2007). Although thousands had tried K2, as of 2006 only 249 climbers had reached the summit of K2. More information about one of his adventures can be found here<https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jul/01/two-british-climbers-rescued-from-pakistan-mountain>.

Alison
