Dear all,
Bruce Normand from the Paul Scherrer Institute, Switzerland, will be giving a Quantum Matter seminar on Quantum Spin Liquids on Wednesday 2/27/2019 in the Smith Seminar from 10-11 am.

In addition, he will give a special seminar, one of its kind, on his adventures in mountaineering on Thursday 2/28/2019 10-11 am in Smith Seminar Room.
See the link above

To his credit, Bruce has climbed K2 (8,611-meter (28,261 feet)) which is part of the Karakoram Range, the eastern tip of the Himalayan Range, on the border between Pakistan and China, the second highest and one of the most dangerous of the 14 peaks on Earth in the 8,000-meter range. To put this in perspective, Mount Everest, the tallest mountain at 8,848 meters (29,028 feet), had been attempted ~11,000 times, and 3,000 climbers had reached its summit (by 2007). Although thousands had tried K2, by 2006 only 249 climbers had reached the summit of K2.

Best,
Nandini
