Important: Automatic install of Adobe Acrobat DC on Wednesday, OCT 18th 2017

To all in the Physics Department,

Yesterday, October 15th, Adobe discontinued support for Acrobat Pro XI (older PDF reading and authoring software). Therefore, the University is moving to the latest version, Adobe Acrobat Pro DC.

Since this software is critical for most business, academic, and research operations, we are electing to deploy it via silent automatic installation to all Windows computers enrolled in our SCCM automatic patching system. We will initiate this as a required deployment on Wednesday, October 18th. It may take a day or more for it to reach your computer, depending on when it checks for updates. It should not mandate a restart of the computer. If it fails to install for any reason (for example, if you were logged in and had the old Acrobat open), it will retry again at a later time until it succeeds.

I will be monitoring compliance of this deployment in an effort to identify issues where possible. Alternatively, you have the option of installing the software ahead of time! Just open the "Software Center" app on your windows computer, and install Acrobat Pro DC from there. If this does not work for you, please let us know.

Please do so by tomorrow, (Oct 17th) if you are concerned that this will adversely affect your computer use.
