Smith Lecture

  Dear all,

     Last night we hosted the 55th Smith Lecture by Prof. Duncan Haldane.  We had a good crowd in Independence Hall with a wide range of spectators from around the community.  Duncan spent two full days in the department meeting with students and faculty.  The whole affair went very well.  I want to thank everyone who participated in the event and those who helped with the organizational aspects.  A special thanks goes to Shelley Palmer who worked all aspects of the event starting way back last spring.  Without her tireless efforts the event would not have run so smoothly.  I also want to thank Terry Bradley, Bryan Dunlap, Kris Dunlap, Mark Reed and Phil Davids for their contributions at the lecture and the logistics of the reception.  The Condensed Matter Theory faculty acted as gracious hosts getting Duncan to all his events.  Finally, thanks to Jason Ho who helped convince Duncan to accept our invitation.
