Gary Steigman

Dear Colleagues,

  We regret to inform you that emeritus Professor Gary Steigman passed away
today, Sunday April 9th.  His passing was the result of injuries he
suffered last week.  Our condolences go out to Gary's wife, Sueli, and his
extended family. Gary was the founding member of Ohio State's cosmology
group and
the first Science Board Chair of the Center for Cosmology and AstroParticle
Physics (CCAPP).  He was a great asset to both the Physics and Astronomy
departments and to the university as a whole.  One of the pioneering
figures in the field of astroparticle physics, Gary won the OSU
Distinguished
Scholar Award in 1992 and was named a Distinguished Professor of
Mathematical and Physical Sciences in 2005. He will certainly be missed.
We will share further details regarding services, etc as they become
available.
