Recent Election and Veteran's Day

    Dear Physics Community,

       I want to echo the statements of President Drake regarding this
year's Presidential election.  It was a bitter process and as a result
there is uncertainty about the future.  I know this has generated anxiety
among many of you, especially among the students.  I want to assure all of
you that the Physics Department will follow President Drake's lead when he
states, "As a university, we exist to create knowledge, explore ideas and
welcome diverse opinions in an atmosphere that is open, collegial and safe
for each of us."  As we pause for Veteran's Day to honor those who have
fought for this country and our freedoms, we should also reflect on the
principles and ideals that we value.  I hope you have a relaxing and
reflective Veteran's Day.
