All,

The election results have frightened many in our physics family here at OSU.

We seek a haven where all scientists feel safe to learn about the physical world. For many of us in the graduate student community, we have found pockets of safety in our community in the PRB. I firmly hold that SWiP has a responsibility to maintain those pockets of inclusivity. And so, our regularly scheduled Chip Chat will not be "drop-in" today. We will actively create the space for those of us who need to process the election without fear, to come together, and to support each other. If you need this space, please be in PRB 1136 before 4:10pm today.

If you don't need the space, but would like to support the folks here who do, consider doing the following:

1. Support student groups with your time and resources. The Office of Diversity and Inclusion (http://odi.osu.edu/) is a good place to start.

2. Commit to supporting the many programs APS has for creating a welcoming environment for all: http://www.aps.org/programs/index.cfm

3. Listen with compassion to those around you.

Thank you,

Sara Mueller

SWiP President
