Physics Dept. computer downtime this morning

Around 9:25 AM we suffered a failure in the department file server
infrastructure that affected Windows computers and, to a lesser extent,
Linux computers. The repair of this problem required an extensive
shutdown of multiple servers, so it took a long time before everything
was back up.

At this point, everything should be working again. Desktop computers may
very well need to be rebooted to work correctly. If you reboot your
computer and still have problems, please let us know via email to
action at physics.osu.edu, calling 2-4269 or stopping by PRB 1199. Be sure
to tell us your name and exactly which computer in what room is involved.

We apologize for the inconvenience. We are working to find better
solutions so that we can improve the quality of service for department
computing.
