Physics Chair Appointment

[Brian Winer]

  Dear Colleagues,

   I want to thank Jim for his service to the department for the last eight
years.  He provided important leadership during that time and I will work
closely with him to accomplish a smooth transition.  I would also like to
give my thanks to Susan and the entire Search Committee for all their hard
work.  During the search process, the views and opinions expressed by all
the candidates, and the faculty as a whole, provided valuable insight.  I
hope we can develop these idea further as we chart the department's future
path.  This will require a commitment from the full faculty and I look
forward to working with you over the coming years.
