Please note that there will be two talks this week from HEE faculty search candidates listed below. Please come and hear the talks. Light refreshments will be served prior to the talks

TOMORROW (Wednesday Jan 20, 2016)
11 am
Smith Seminar Room (1080 PRB)
Frank Golf, UC-Santa Barbara
Searching for New Physics with the Large Hadron Collider
Abstract: After a two hear shutdown, the LHC restarted proton-proton collisions in 2015 with an increase in center-of-mass energy to 13 TeV. I will describe some of the techniques used to search for new physics at the LHC along with some early results from the first year of running.

Thursday (January 21, 2016)
10 am
Smith Seminar Room (1080 PRB)
Nhan Tran ( Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory)
The LHC Unleashed: Diboson searches at CMS
Abstract: The discovery of the Higgs boson highlights Run 1 at the LHC. As we begin Run 2 in search of new physics beyond the Standard Model, the LHC will operate at a higher energy and collision rate. While these new LHC conditions improve sensitivity to new physics, they present new challenges to the detectors, reconstruction, and analyses which require new techniques. These will be presented within context of searches for diboson resonances and intriguing new results will be discussed.

Thanks,
