Please join us on Monday, April 20th for the Condensed Matter Theory seminar presented by Shinsei Ryu, University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign at 11:30am in 4138 PRB (PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A DIFFERENT ROOM THAN USUAL).

"Fermionic symmetry protected topological phases with reflection symmetry and global anomalies"
Abstract: Quantum anomalies, breakdown of classical symmetries by quantum effects, provide a sharp definition of symmetry protected topological (SPT) phases. In particular, they can diagnose interaction effects on the non-interacting classification of fermionic SPT phases. In this talk, I will discuss various examples of topological superconductors with reflection symmetries in (2+1) and (3+1) dimensions. In particular, I will focus on how interaction effects can modify free-fermion classifications by identifying global quantum anomalies at the boundary of these systems.
Thank you,
Trisch
