Please take note of Colloquium taking place today, Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 4:00 PM in The Robert Smith Seminar Room. There will be a reception in the Atrium at 3:45PM. Details concerning the talk are as follows:
Speaker: Marcos Dantus (Michigan State University)
Date: Tuesday, November 25, 2014
Time: 4:00 PM
Place: 1080 Physics Research Building, The Robert Smith Seminar Room
Title: Probing and Controlling Laser Matter Interactions Using Ultrashort Shaped Pulses
Abstract: Femtosecond pulses allow the unprecedented opportunity to probe matter on a timescale that is faster than atomic motion. The Dantus Research develops ultrashort pulsed sources to probe and control laser-matter interactions. This work touches on pulse characterization and compression, as well as measuring the dispersion of optical materials. The specific scientific challenges that will be addressed in this talk are (a) the coherent photophysical behavior of large molecules in solution; (b) nanoplasmonic dephasing in single, pairs, and chains of nanoparticles; and (c) strong field ionization and fragmentation of polyatomic molecules
