Unfortunately, Prof. Halzen will not be able to visit today, due to problems with his flights. His first flight was canceled, but he got another one, only to miss his connecting flight by one minute and to find out that all further flights to Columbus today are full.
I will try to get him here another time.

Speaker: Francis Halzen (University of Wisconsin-Madison)
Date: Tuesday, February 18, 2014
Time: 4:00 PM
Place: 1080 Physics Research Building, The Robert Smith Seminar Room
Title: Evidence for High-Energy Extraterrestrial Neutrinos at the IceCube Detector
Abstract: The IceCube project has transformed one cubic kilometer of natural Antarctic ice into a neutrino detector. The instrument detects 100,000 neutrinos per year in the GeV to PeV energy range. Among those we have recently isolated a flux of extraterrestrial neutrinos. I will discuss the instrument, the analysis of the data and the significance of the discovery of cosmic neutrinos.
