The Center for Cosmology and AstroParticle Physics (CCAPP) at The Ohio State University and the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) are proud to present a two-part event held at COSI in downtown Columbus.
Confirmed Truths and Remaining Mysteries Regarding the Origin of the Universe
Professor Lloyd Knox (http://virgo.physics.ucdavis.edu/~knox/LloydKnox/Home.html)
3-4pm Sunday 23 February: public lecture by Prof. Knox in the COSI Extreme Screen Theater
The Universe used to be filled with hot, dense matter, smoothly distributed across a rapidly expanding space. Professor Knox will trace the history of this "Big Bang" picture of our origins, clarifying its observational successes and highlighting the remaining questions that drive us toward deeper exploration.
Lloyd Knox is a Professor of Physics at the University of California at Davis. He is leading the U.S. component of the effort to determine the basic parameters of the cosmos from the data acquired by the Planck satellite, which was launched in 2009. He is well known as an excellent speaker for both scientific and public audiences.
Big Bang Science discussion
4-5pm Sunday 23 February: public discussion with Prof. Knox and CCAPP scientists, COSI Atrium
Meet the speaker and CCAPP scientists. Ask questions about the universe and its amazing contents, hear about exciting research being done at The Ohio State University, and find ways to further your interests in science.
Both events are free, open to all, and targeted to be interesting to broad audiences. Admission to other COSI exhibits and parking are not included. See http://ccapp.osu.edu/PublicLectures.html and http://www.cosi.org/families/adults/item/big-bang-science-2 for further details.
