[ALERT] PRB Freight Elevator Temporarily Out of Service - Temporary Safety Protocol in Place for Passenger Elevators

The State Elevator Safety Inspector has ordered the PRB freight elevator be taken out of service until ~June 13th due to the presence of significant moisture found yesterday in the elevator mechanical room.  A leak was located in the roof of this room and was the source of the moisture found. The Inspector will release the unit for service only when the roof leak has been repaired and all evidence of moisture has dried.

As a temporary measure for transporting cryogenic storage tanks between floors, the passenger elevators will serve as alternates to the freight elevator.

This condition will require a temporary safety protocol prohibiting human occupancy in the elevator cab when a cryogenic storage tank (dewar) is present.

Occupants will note signage as seen in the attached file at each passenger elevator to further inform of this condition.

Occupants will also note the presence of protective pads in the elevator cabs which have been installed to lessen the chance for bumps and scrapes to the cab walls.

The Department Safety Representatives strenuously insist that all occupants strictly abide by this necessary and temporary safety protocol.

A follow-up message will be sent when the freight elevator returns to service and the temporary safety protocol is lifted.
