All,
OSC (Ohio Supercomputer Center) an upcoming introductory presentation 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3 in room 1080 of the Physics Research Building on The Ohio State University's main campus. This training will be an introduction to OSC resources, including information about how to get accounts and connect, as well as conduct basic tasks. This is open to all potential OSC users, including non-OSU students and faculty. To register for the November training, please visit http://armstrong.osc.edu/events/eventpage.php?id=73 (NB: If you are logged in to ARMSTRONG, the registration page will automatically use your ARMSTRONG information.)
The Ohio Supercomputer Center is a statewide resource that provides supercomputing services and computational science expertise to Ohio university researchers as well as Ohio industries. Please note that as researcher (undergrad, grad, post doc or faculty) you can gain access to these computational resources and I highly encourage you to take advantage of OSC's systems.
If you need any help with OSC or any local research computing I am here to help.
Keith

Dear OSC users and clients,
I have information about several training opportunities I want to share with you.
Introduction to High Performance Computing at OSC
We will be offering a brief introductory seminar to OSC resources at several locations around the state of Ohio this fall. This training is intended for new OSC users or researchers interested in learning about OSC resources.
Topics covered will include:
* High performance computing concepts
* Hardware and software available at OSC
* Getting allocations and accounts
* How to connect and log in
* How to move data on and off the systems
* Introduction to batch processing
* Storage and file systems
We have currently confirmed two locations:
The Ohio State University
This will be a two-hour seminar, located in the Physics Research Building on Ohio State's main campus from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3. For more information and to sign up, please visit the registration page on ARMSTRONG<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=0018DMZeMqyfvW8-texL2Qcm_rDFoEbSnfSK6GK0F9-wdsCOfZxSYZEGdEVNoAxeCt44fpTX0SxfjuCFZL2xB9432sindc2FDvgeO1FhX3iv_SB_W8AKH1Zuj1_QVzU1C41ZpvXOVrB2pSdPb9ljzKuogKWttc-8z0mYLPEq2ViAHE=>.
Cleveland State University
This will be a 3.5 hour seminar, covering the same topics in slightly more depth, from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Following the seminar, we will be conducting "office hours," to meet with individual researchers or research groups who wish to speak with support staff from OSC about their computing needs or any issues they may be having. For more information and to sign up for the seminar, please visit the registration page on ARMSTRONG<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=0018DMZeMqyfvXfPeKxkO_1wiZjmvfIn29gG76c_0_g0grUT1KposmynkDRQx2s2RnvI52Hhn_p8U-LBruLiBFoSCaPYXm7Kd66uBCD_qcUR3jNffFZUSs21s7mfbR6wnwvdt8le61aRMMJrIP27Y7UKN1tC4oy3AxIeNAmtWZNm1M=>. To arrange an appointment to speak with OSC staff, there will be a reservation sheet at the seminar, or you may contact OSC Help<mailto:oschelp at osc.edu> in advance.
Other Sites
We are currently attempting to arrange seminars at other locations around the state. If you would like us to visit your institution and can help us with the logistics of securing a lecture hall, please contact OSC Help<mailto:oschelp at osc.edu>.
Optimizing for the Intel Xeon Phi
We are delighted to be able to announce that Intel engineers will be coming to OSC on Sept. 25 to provide training on using Intel software development tools to optimize code for the Intel Xeon Phi accelerators. Topics will include a hardware overview, performance tuning, MKL and Intel's Trace Analyzer. OSC's Ruby Transitional Cluster will be available to allow some hands-on time with demonstration code or for users already doing Phi development to interface with Intel and OSC engineers.
Demand was very high the last time Intel came to provide training, and space is limited, so please register in advance.
