Dear Physics Community -
[cid:image002.jpg at 01CE91E4.890E9B90]Hopefully, you saw Dean Manderscheid's email from a week ago regarding Team ASC and Pelotonia 13. I'd like to add my own shameless plug for the 5th annual cancer research fundraising bike event, taking place this coming weekend (August 10 and 11).
This will be my 5th year to be involved with Pelotonia, and 4th year riding; the list of people we know who have been affected by or who have been lost to cancer grows longer, not shorter. I have ribbons on my bike bag for each person for whom I ride - those lost and those who are survivors. They travel with me, over every mile I pedal. This year, I'm especially celebrating my cousin, who is a breast cancer survivor since 2006 and who has come out of remission with metastases. She has been a graceful warrior through her years facing cancer; because she isn't giving up, I won't either.
The Physics Department certainly has representation on Team ASC: Zeke Johnston-Halperin along with his wife, Jen Keswani, and I are riding; Becky Daskalova is volunteering this year. Our team includes riders, "virtual" riders and volunteers from many units across the College, and we know we can each have a positive and significant effect on cancer, through supporting cancer research.
We all carefully consider where our charity dollars go, but Team ASC and its riders would be grateful for your donations in any amount (our profile page is here<go.osu.edu/TeamASC>; click on the green "Donate to Our Peloton" button to proceed). 100% of your Pelotonia donation goes directly to fund cancer research projects at The James Cancer Hospital. Our own post-docs, grad students and undergrads are receiving direct grant support from Pelotonia, so in truth, a large chunk of your donations from past years have already come right back around to our College and our Department. Please help us continue the flow of this critical research!
And, if you're a cyclist or wish to be counted as a "virtual rider" - it's not too late to sign up!
Thanks very much -
TB

All funds raised will go directly to The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute to be used for life changing research.
