We're ramping up for Pelotonia 12 - this year's bike event will again raise significant research funds for The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. Every dollar raised goes toward funding cancer research, and it's still all about finding a cure.
Last year, Team Physics, within the OSU Team Buckeye super-peloton, had great participation from within the Department, and we were delighted to have a few colleagues from other departments ride with us. Together, we raised almost $22,000 - thanks to all of you who supported the team!
Physics students have already directly received funding from the Pelotonia fellowship programs (undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral fellowships). Our department has an established connection to Pelotonia so our ongoing commitment to and participation in the event is "win-win-win", all ways around.
This year's event will take place on the weekend of August 10-12, 2012. New routes have been added, and instead of finishing at Ohio University, the longer distance routes will finish at Kenyon College, in beautiful Gambier, OH.
Team ASC has already been established as a sub-peloton of Team Buckeye - this is the new "home base" for everyone in the College of Arts & Sciences who wants to participate in Pelotonia. Please consider joining us in any capacity; the more of us who participate, the greater our leverage in raising research dollars.
If you, or any family or friends-of-OSU are interested in riding, serving as a virtual rider or volunteering, or if you just want to know more about how this event works, please contact me. There are lots of opportunities for the Physics community to help the overall effort, even if you aren't able to ride. NOTE: OSU undergrad and grad students can take advantage of a special arrangement with Pelotonia regarding registration fees and fundraising commitments.
