[NEWS] Swipe Card Equipment Now Installed at Smith Lab

[Physics facility information]

As part of the Holography program transition from Haskett Hall, the Physics Department has led efforts to install a Lenel Swipe Card reader on Smith Lab.

The reader is located at the entrance for people with disabilities on the northeast corner of the building and facing the Quad between Smith and McPherson.

Permissions for access by Physics Department members are processed in the same way as for the Physics Research Building; by completing an access request form.

With this added functionality, auto-unlock capabilities will now be present for Smith Lab after-hours events.

It is foreseen that administration of this door access will be shared across each of the various department/user groups within Smith Lab.

This means that Engineering will manage access for Engineering users, Anthropology will manage access for Anthropology users, Physics will manage access for Physics users, and so on for each occupant group within the building.

The result of this added functionality is that a broader range of users from multiple departments will now have after-hours access to Smith Lab.

Appropriate security considerations for this new and expanded access condition will be required by all Smith Lab occupant groups.

Although the Physics Department provided the front end funding for the project and will retain the ongoing maintenance costs, other departments occupying Smith Lab will have an opportunity to financially support the project to the extent possible and practical and to benefit fully from its installation.
