Hello all

On Monday, the Astronomy department will begin its fourth annual python bootcamp. All are welcome to join! Each session will be hybrid, but we encourage those interested to attend in-person. We will send out location and zoom information Monday morning. For now, mark your calendars!

This bootcamp consists of six ~2-hour sessions spread out over two weeks. We will meet from 2-4 PM on the following days:

  1. Monday, May 8: Unix terminal, python as a programming language
  2. Wednesday, May 10: Review of data types, if/elif/else, for/while loops, functions, try/except/finally, and nuances thereof
  3. Friday, May 12: Anaconda, how to read documentation, basic structure of a python package
  4. Monday, May 15: Object-oriented programming 1 (classes, properties, "magic" methods)
  5. Wednesday, May 17: Object-oriented programming 2 (inheritance and composition)
  6. Thursday, May 18: Good coding practices, GitHub

We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday.

Happy coding!
James
