All,
Please take a moment to consider emailing Ohio Senator Rob Portman to reject proposed DOE funding cuts. Our own Prof. Jessica Winter has written an op-ed in The Hill that APS is urging his office to read.
The link below will send you to the APS portal for sending a pre-drafted email to Sen. Portman's office.
Collective action here may save many grant dollars headed to Ohio State.
Thank you,
Sara Mueller

[Ask Senator Portman to reject the proposed cuts to the DOE Office of Science]<http://aps.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=1c2ffbf7f7d8f7439923005ce&id=2658468b42&e=5d2f87a6e1>
The Trump administration has proposed a dramatic 17% budget cut for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. Your Senator, Rob Portman, needs to hear from you that he should reject that plan.
Senator Portman has an influential role with the Trump Administration<http://aps.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=1c2ffbf7f7d8f7439923005ce&id=380bb7f21e&e=5d2f87a6e1>. Ohio State professor Jessica O. Winter has written an op-ed in The Hill that makes a strong case for federal investment in science. Winter, associate director of the Ohio State Physics-led Center for Emergent Materials, writes: “As details on the spending plan become clearer in the coming weeks, I urge Sen. Portman and other members of Congress to follow their earlier wise decision and provide the [DOE] Office of Science the support they have said it deserves.” Read the op-ed here.<http://aps.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=1c2ffbf7f7d8f7439923005ce&id=dc45ec0d32&e=5d2f87a6e1>
As an APS member in his state, please take a moment to contact his office to urge him to read Dr. Winter’s op-ed. Current data suggests that tweets are the most effective method, followed by phone calls and emails.
