All,?
SWiP and The Department of Physics are very pleased to be hosting one of eight APS-sponsored Conferences for Undergraduate Women in Physics in January 2016.?
The conference will start with?a welcome reception Friday evening, January 15, 2016, and end Sunday afternoon, January 17 and will bring together successful female physicists and over 200?undergraduate women in physics to highlight career opportunities for women in physics and the contributions of women in physics. The meeting will provide ample opportunities for interacting with fellow physicists. The conference will include the following activities:?
???1. presentations by professional physicists on their cutting edge research and personal career paths;?
???2. panels featuring career opportunities outside academia;?
???3. workshops or panels offering guidance on how to get involved in summer research, the graduate school application process, applying to transfer to a four-year college from a community college, and preparing for and applying for jobs in industry;?
???4. an opportunity for undergraduate attendees to present their research in a poster session;?
???5. a tour of?research labs at The Ohio State University;?
???6. an EXPO featuring a Grad School Fair, a Career Fair, and resources from national physics-related societies.?
?
To ensure a successful conference, we will need help from all corners of the Department.
Faculty:
Faculty can help by providing lab tours on Friday afternoon, participating in the Science Café on Saturday, and by helping judge the student poster session. We also need help finding industrial sponsors and speakers, so your contacts could be crucial.
Students:
The conference will largely be supported by student volunteers. We need chaperones for the duration of the conference, volunteers for setting up and cleaning afterwards, but we also more imminently need help reaching out to potential sponsors, helping with forming workshops, and organizing lab tours. If you are interested in any of these tasks, or just want to help out, email Sara Mueller: Mueller.352 at osu.edu.
Staff:
We know that the Physics Department Staff is an incredible resource for understanding how to interface with the university and for pointing people in the right direction to get what they need. We would appreciate any extra help you can provide.
