upcoming change to Physics Dept. network firewall

We have done 3 tests and identified and corrected relatively few issues 
with the new firewall policies. Therefore, we feel it is time to move 
ahead with the project.

On Monday morning, August 4, at approximately 9:00 AM we will change the 
firewall to the new policies on what we plan to be a permanent basis.  
After this, as soon as any issues are reported to us, we will work 
quickly to resolve them.  Generally, changes to our firewall can be 
implemented within a few minutes.

Please let us know of problems communicating from outside the department 
to inside the department as soon as possible.  Network connectivity 
inside, or from inside to outside, should not be affected. The most 
effective way to report problems, is, as always, email to 
action at physics.osu.edu.

Thank you to everyone who reported issues to us during the testing. This 
was very helpful to us.
