[ALERT] Energy Conservation Measures Project - Weekend Building Closure August 9-10 - Notice 1 of 3

[Physics facility information]

The Physics Research Building will be closed for general occupancy the weekend of August 9 and 10 to execute key portions of the ECM project and to complete preventive maintenance deferred by FOD from the last quarterly outage.

Leading up to, and during this closure and outage, the following work packages will be completed:

1.) Lab-side air handlers AHU-1 and AHU-2 will be converted from fixed frequency drives to variable frequency drives.

2.) Main exhaust fans will be converted from fixed frequency drives to variable frequency drives. ** See note below

3.) New flow sensors for the main exhaust fans will be installed in the exhaust duct plenums on the roof.

4.) Preventive maintenance work by FOD deferred from the last quarterly outage will be completed.

Additional details regarding the specific sequences and timing of shutdowns are still under development and will be added in subsequent notices for this event.

It is foreseen that occupants with special need for access to the building during this closure will be able to make arrangements with the facility team on a case-by-case basis.


This is notice 1 of 3 for this event.


** Note:
Exhaust fans will be done sequentially during normal business hours between the current time and the time of the outage with 5 of 6 fans remaining online at any one time. This is
a proven operating condition that is frequently done and for which no fume hood limitations are required by occupants.  No announcements for each singular fan outage will be made.
