Access to AIP content (including The Physics Teacher and The American Journal of Physics)

I am writing regarding an email you may have recently received from AAPT (American Association of Physics Teachers).  Unfortunately, the email contained some exceptionally misleading information regarding your access to The Physics Teacher and The American Journal of Physics.

Let me begin by saying that OSU users continue to have full access to these and all other AIP titles.  After extended negotiations with AIP, OhioLINK canceled its subscription to the AIP package.  The negotiations were coupled with numerous formal discussions among the OhioLINK member institutions (who funded the majority of the OhioLINK consortial AIP subscription).  After many months of negotiations (and a great deal of frustration) it became clear that the gap between what the OhioLINK institutions could offer and what AIP was demanding (a 1,900% increase) was far too wide to bridge.

Despite concerns OSU held regarding AIP's demands, we realized the necessity of maintaining access to AIP content.  Our own negotiations with AIP were finalized months ago.  The changeover in OSU's access to AIP content (from OhioLINK to OSU) should have been completely seamless and invisible to our users.  Unfortunately, AIP has repeatedly mistakenly shut off our access.  Although they did turn it back on each time we notified them of the mistake, the process was slow and some of you may have experienced interruptions in service.  If you experience any difficulties in accessing AIP content, now or in the future, please contact me.
