3 more items that I wasn't present at CIS to announce - I am sending to Jane so she can send out in her weekly huddle email to staff.
JDC protocol
Juvenile Detention Center calls Dental Registration Desk (614-355-7153) before transporting patient to Dental Clinic.
Dental Registration Desk calls Attending in E pod (5-7818). Attending prepares a room for this patient, someone will communicate with Nikki which room is ready.
Patient arrives, goes straight to Nikki's desk with one Juvenile Detention Officer (JDO). Nikki will call Pod E and/or escort the patient to the treatment room.
2nd JDO goes to Registration desk, registers and gets patient wristband for the patient.
Triage/x-rays/treatment cannot start until patient is registered/arrived in EPIC and patient has wristband.
Goal - minimize time that JDC patient sits in public waiting area

Charting black
We are seeing a lot of SDF'ed teeth now, and it is inaccurate to chart all of them as red. When coloring the tooth chart, RED should indicate caries (that needs treatment), and BLACK should be used to chart teeth with arrested decay, whether that is arrested via SDF, or natural means (in other words, does not necessarily need treatment). Teeth should be charted as the patient presented to the appointment - in other words, if a kid comes with a cavity and you apply SDF today, the charting for today should be RED. Next visit, if SDF arrests the cavity and the tooth does not need treatment, it would be charted as BLACK.
Also:
If a previously-SDF'ed tooth is soft and needs treatment, as in -- it now has active caries, it would be charted as RED. Because it has active caries.
If a previously-SDF'ed tooth is hard and black (arrested), but needs a restoration or crown to restore function, decrease food impaction, etc - it is OK to chart as black and tx plan for restoration too.
If a previously-SDF'ed tooth is black but on the soft side (thus, partially arrested, partially active) and you are still trying to hold off on treatment, you can chart as red or black (your call) at that visit, and then reapply SDF.

Scheduling errors - Central Scheduling wants to do their job correctly - so, in order to see if there are scheduling flow errors (vs just random mistakes) - please document scheduling errors on the yellow sheet outside Erika/Deb Winston's office. Examples - 2 patients scheduled at same time with same provider, patient scheduled for hygiene vs CC, non-MCP patient scheduled as MCP, 2 year old scheduled as hygiene, pt schedule for EVEOP without any treatment to do - those kind of things. Keeping a list will help us see trends/patterns and we can work to see if there is something wrong with the scheduling flow-chart that Central Scheduling is using and how we can work to minimize these errors in the future.
