Everyone,
Besides moving into a spectacular new dental home, we have 3 faculty who were honored this week.
Dr. Kim Hammersmith is the recipient of the Master Clinician Scholarship from the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children Foundation. The scholarship includes the tuition and fees to the Institute for Teaching and Learning in Atlanta and complimentary registration to the AAPD Comprehensive Review of Pediatric Dentistry. We all agree that Dr. Kim is a natural teacher and a great clinician!
Dr. Erin Gross was honored as one of the 2017 Outstanding Instructors during the OSUCoD Convocation yesterday. Next to her photograph a beautiful comment was written by the students. "Dr. Erin is easily one if the most cheerful professors in Postle Hall. Her positive attitude and exceptional teaching abilities made a world of difference learning pediatric dentistry. Not only does she oversee the pre-doctoral education, she plays a huge part in the Give Kids A Smile program to help those in need. She's abundantly kind and compassionate, and we are grateful to have her be a part of our education." I think we all dream of having a comment like this from those we teach!
During the annual meeting of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, I was elected to the position of Director, American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. It is a special privilege to share my experiences in pediatric oral pathology with this group. Many thanks to the faculty and residents for identifying these unusual diseases in children and helping me stay current, so I can share our findings with others.
Anyone of these accomplishments would have been awesome, but it is truly exceptional that we can celebrate all 4 of these in just one week!
On Monday, when the doors open to our new offices and clinic, we will be sending positive thoughts to our residents who will be taking the qualifying examination. As Dr. McTigue stated at CIS, "you will all do great - just get a good night's rest!"
Congrats to all -
Catherine M. Flaitz, DDS, MS
Chief of Dentistry
