[Pedfac] REMINDER: Simulator Demonstration Tomorrow

Agree absolutely with Dr. Dan. This may be a part of competitive business in today's world, but I always felt that sims were obsolete the moment they were installed, so do the companies today guarantee upgrades? Can the dummies get reeducated and have body work?

Dan represented our division and reviewed the simulation equipment for the future simulation clinic in the CoD replacement building.

He gave me permission to forward his brief comments to keep everyone in the loop.

"I had a chance to look at the sim units and hear what each vendor had to say. I think the Kavo and the A-dec units are both very nice. The Midmark unit seemed a little behind the other two.

My experience with dental equipment makes me lean towards A-dec, as they have proven to be very durable units that can handle a lot of use and abuse (a necessary feature in dental schools). That being said, I think they should choose the sim unit that most closely resembles the units they will be using in the comprehensive care clinics."

Thanks, Dan, for reviewing the equipment - I am sure that there will be additional visits by the 3 vendors so that more of us can have hands-on experience.

Dear Students and Faculty:

You are invited to review simulation workbenches and dental patient simulators being considered for installation in Phase I of the Postle Hall Replacement project. Three vendors -- A-dec/Nevin, KaVo Dental, and Midmark -- have provided equipment to be tried and tested to determine the best equipment for our new simulation environments.

Representatives from each company will be on site to present the product offerings and configuration options and to answer questions. An evaluation form will also be provided so you can offer your observations and comments on each display model.
