We follow a similar process to Kent State.

*         We enter every college level course from an appropriately accredited institution* in which the student earned a grade of C or better.

*         We do not enter courses with grades of C- or lower.

*         For the past few years we've also added remedial / developmental courses and show the equivalency as NT 000 Not Transferrable for 0 credit hours.

*         If we don't have an exact equivalent within our corresponding department the equivalency is lower or upper division elective credit within the department. When appropriate it might fulfill a requirement.

*         If we don't have a corresponding department we award lower or upper division general elective credit. When appropriate it might fulfill a requirement.

*         I should also mention that when a transfer course is given a specific Xavier equivalency it also carries the same attributes of that Xavier course. So if SOC 1110 Introductory Sociology from another institution is given the equivalency of SOCI 101 Introduction to Sociology at Xavier that transfer course would also carry the Social Science attribute and the Diversity Core flag and fulfill those requirements.

*         WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC)

Right now, Kent State enters in everything that is college level, unaccredited, and passed with the min grade required for transfer. It doesn't matter if it's equivalent to a specific course, or elective credits, or even if it has a matching subject area or not. We can't predict down the road when a program might want to utilize those credits for something so we make sure anything transferrable is added.

On the other hand, we do NOT enter on courses that do not get equivalents... for example, we don't type on an 'incoming' course that had a grade of D- or a course that was remedial level. However, I know that there may be some financial aid staff that would like to have that added to the record for tracking purposes even if there is no equivalent that would show on the GPS audit. Do any other schools add those on, even if no course is awarded on the 'equivalent side' of the database? I know manual data-entry in the past might have discouraged doing that because of the extra time it takes, but with OCR software and other technology, I wonder if this is something that schools might start to include on transfer evaluation records?

We bring in everything.  Here is a prime reason why we do that.  KSU has a course called Seven Ideas that Shook the Universe, Physics course.  That is one of their science core/OT36 course but we do not have an exact match.  But we bring it in as PHYC 800 (Physics Elective).  Because the incoming course was part of KSU's OT36, we would treat PHYC 800, for that equivalency specific, satisfy OT36 science requirement at our institution, even though we do not have PHYC 800 as part of our own OT36 science course. Our school is reviewing some aspects of our transfer credit process. I'm curious - probably more so from a 2-year college standpoint - if you transfer in ALL previous credit or only credit that is an equivalency to your catalog of courses.

We have always transferred everything in and this sometimes creates a laundry list of MISC-1999 credit that is really irrelevant for students.
