[OACRAO] FERPA and dependency status

Hi All
I hope everyone is gearing up for the upcoming long weekend.

Marietta College has traditionally required authorization to release information to parents or guardians, outside of health & safety reason. We are tentatively considering revision of our policies to allow release based on dependency status. For those of you managing FERPA under the condition, how do you determine dependency status? Do students confirm their status? If so, how is this collected and how is it kept up to date?
