[OACRAO] ? Directory Information and Addresses

We simply list email address as directory information although it would be rare to release anything other than the college email.

My office only accepts correspondence from the college email and only sends to the .edu address. I encourage everyone on campus to do the same as part of FERPA training but we have no formal policy requiring it.

I was wondering if anyone has any input on which email address (personal or college assigned) you consider for release under directory information. Assuming due diligence confirming legitimate access to the data by the requestor, do you include personal email (yahoo, gmail, etc) as provided by the student typically at admission, the college assigned email (.edu), both, or neither? In the past, we have included a mix dependent upon the request and who has provided the data.

I am interested in two perspectives.

1.      As a sender

a.      Which email you use?

b.      Is there a specific reason why (formal policy or informal)?

2.      As a receiver

a.      Which do you prefer?

b.      Any specific reasons why you prefer personal over .edu?

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance.
