[OACRAO] Diplomas and commencement

  1.  For institutions that do not hand out the actual diplomas at commencement, what is given to students (if anything) as they cross the stage? We hand out the diploma/certificate cover with a congratulatory message from our President in it.
  2.  For institutions who award one-year certificates, if a student has only earned a certificate are they allowed to participate in commencement ceremony? Yes
     *   If so, is their certificate handed to them as they cross the stage? Only the cover with a message from our President inside
                                                               i.      If no, what is given as the student crosses the stage?

We are looking into making a few changes with regards to our diplomas and commencement ceremony and wanted to reach out to see what other institution's practices were.  We are a 2-yr college and in addition to associate degrees, we also have one-year certificates that students can earn either along with their 2-yr degree or just on their own.  Here are the questions I have:


1.       For institutions that do not hand out the actual diplomas at commencement, what is given to students (if anything) as they cross the stage?

2.       For institutions who award one-year certificates, if a student has only earned a certificate are they allowed to participate in commencement ceremony?

a.       If so, is their certificate handed to them as they cross the stage?

                                                               i.      If no, what is given as the student crosses the stage?
