[OACRAO] instructional time.

Colleagues,

I have a follow up question regarding instructional time. After speaking with several registrars I seem to be getting some differing opinions regarding instructional time so I would like to rephrase my question.

The Federal definition of a credit hour allows institutions to define how they meet a credit hour based on the Carnegie unit. It appears that there are several flexibilities in determining the appropriate amount of credit hours for student coursework.

However, an ad hoc committee recommended that Ohio adopt a minimum of 750 minutes of formalized instructional time per credit hour as its guideline for public universities. Can anyone tell me if this is a state requirement, and if it applies to private institutions? Does legislation require private institutions to meet the minimum of 750 minutes per credit hour of formalized instructional seat time?

Thank you.
