[OACRAO] Question about CCP grades taught at High Schools

Kristy,

We have several classes held at the high school and those sections follow the high school’s schedule. The high schools usually differ from Edison when they begin and end school, and they have many additional days off throughout the school year. The high schools we work with have students take our class within a regular high school period, meaning they are meeting every day for a shorter time, justifying the “additional weeks” they spend on the course, minus all the days off for President’s day, snow days, 2-hour delays, etc.

Fall grades for classes held at high schools are usually in by middle to late January. I have had to wait until mid-June for spring grades some years—fortunately this year all the high schools will be out by the end of May, so I hope to have them only a few weeks late! We also have a few sections that run all-year, ususally courses with a higher credit hour load that would not be reasonable to fit into half a year at the high school, and we collect those grades in May.

Kristy:

Heidelberg occasionally offers one course at the HS. While I believe we are the minority, they were to follow our schedule because we made it clear the course is ours and contact time was to be as close as possible. The students did not meet every day of the week either. They had an extra period in the mornings.

A side note, I think offering the college courses in the high school on the high school days does not accurately represent a college course. I am seeing several CCP students unable to handle college level courses although I cannot say if these students took them at a college campus or at their high school. Would be interesting research!

Good Morning!

I am looking for feedback on when your H.S. have to have grades turned in. Does your H.S. partnerships align the College courses with your institutions dates or do they all have different dates due to when the H.S. starts and ends? Did your faculty or course coordinators design the course to fit for H.S. to make them align with your Institution dates?

For example: MTC Spring 16 week semesters goes from 1/8 – 5/5 and all grades are due by midnight on 5/6 (it is a bit earlier because of our graduation is that following Saturday).
I have some schools tell me they need till May 18 and so on because they either start later or they are extending the course. Last year I was waiting on grades till the middle of June. I am just looking at what other Colleges do with aligning dates with CCP courses taught at H.S. and trying to get a better handle on getting grades in before summer breaks begins for most H.S.

We do not have a problem with CCP courses being taught on campus with grades.

Any feedback would be very much appreciated.

Thank you
