Dear MES Forum Members,

We are pleased to share news of a development in the International Society of Muslim Women in Science (ISMWS), founded by Ohio State’s Professor Sultana N. Nahar. The Society has launched a new chapter at the University of Barishal in Bangladesh. The chapter’s inaugural “Stay in Science” program brought together students, faculty, and university leadership to celebrate and support women pursuing STEM fields.

The Barishal chapter adds to a growing network of ISMWS chapters across the United States, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Palestine, and Saudi Arabia, and now Bangladesh. ISMWS currently counts more than 500 members in 34 countries, linking students, faculty, and professionals and creating pipelines for mentorship, research collaboration, and graduate study. It held, along with Indo-US STEM Education and Research Center of OSU and Aligarh Muslim University, an international symposium , participated by 10 countries, to observe the International Women's Day 2026 in March and published the 4th volume of the e-magazine An-Nisa for women in STEM.

You can read the full story about the Barishal chapter’s inauguration, its student competitions, and its rapidly growing membership on our website:

Along with the article, we invite you to watch a short video<https://www.astronomy.ohio-state.edu/nahar.1/ismws/ismws-intro-barishalu.mp4> created by Barishal students that introduces ISMWS and highlights the importance of women staying in science. The video highlights what this new chapter means to the founders, and its global scope.

Join us in celebrating the expanding impact of ISMWS, started by Professor Nahar in 2010, and now touching young women scientists in multiple continents.

Dr. Nahar, congratulations! Thank you for your tireless work to inspire the next generation of scientists.
