Dear Middle East Studies Forum colleagues,
We invite you to read and share the latest post from the Middle East Studies Center blog: “A History of U.S.-Iranian Relations (Part II)” by MESC intern Ian Staker.
Building on Part I, this in-depth article examines why repeated efforts at U.S.-Iranian diplomacy have faltered over the past four decades. It explores the lasting impact of the Iran-Iraq War, Iran’s “forward defense” strategy and regional proxy networks, the nuclear standoff and the JCPOA, domestic pressures within Iran, and the escalation of tensions since October 2023.
