Dear MES Forum,

We are so excited to hear from Dr. Kaya Şahin on Monday at 3:45<https://history.osu.edu/events/peerless-among-princes> about Sultan Süleyman. Besides his upcoming new role at Ohio State<https://oaa.osu.edu/vice-provost-global-strategies-and-international-affairs-announcement> as Vice Provost for Global Strategies, he is currently serving as Professor of History and the Executive Associate Dean of the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies at Indiana University. After receiving his PhD in History from the University of Chicago, he taught at Northwestern, Tulane, and Indiana. He is the author of Empire and Power in the Reign of Süleyman: Narrating the Sixteenth-Century Ottoman Empire<https://mitpressbookstore.mit.edu/book/9781107529885> and Peerless among Princes: The Life and Times of Sultan Süleyman<https://global.oup.com/academic/product/peerless-among-princes-9780197531631>. He published articles on apocalypticism, bureaucracy, early modern Orientalism, crosscultural encounters, and ceremonies and rituals. He is currently working on a new book, provisionally entitled Empire, Ritual, Masculinity: Circumcision Celebrations for Ottoman Princes, 1457-1582.

Best wishes,
