How can we break out of the 24 hour news cycle, followed by apathy, and show sustained solidarity and support for people in need?
How should we be thinking about community support versus bureaucratic support? What have recent disasters shown us about this relationship?
We encourage you to come prepared to discuss these questions, offer insights, and create connections.
We will be joined by experts, including Carl Holtman from “Be the Voice for Girls”<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/osu.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=8aad9a415882af05c91822d20&id=8e6592f8ea&e=6b437f4be7__;!!KGKeukY!zmDwFQBSPvd_M3KgjHEpjB4Y3MG-Bjlad_2ZUwsdeXVJV4XdTMOyTGt0DjKjrBUp9q0YX5BrrykZe0p8VCDGHugO$>, a grassroots organization in Türkiye providing educational opportunities to grade-school girls. Roger Cohen, a Regional English Language Officer in Turkiye, will also be joining to contribute insights. At a time like this, supporting programs that directly affect people and communities is most beneficial.
Join us in discussing ways to show solidarity and provide aid from a distance in the context of the recent devastating earthquakes. Though good intentions and sympathy are a necessary start, we would like to explore effective ways to mobilize and provide meaningful support.
