Over the past academic year the Middle East Studies Center created new resources and services and organized programs and events that responded to faculty and student needs. The resources we produced included a career planning page<https://mesc.osu.edu/opportunities> and created a system for sharing our faculty members’ courses<https://mesc.osu.edu/courses_info>. We hosted a food sovereignty workshop<https://mesc.osu.edu/events/food-sov-workshop> with the Global Water Institute, the Libraries and many co-sponsors last Autumn semester that focused on community-partnered research. Several communities involved in food sovereignty efforts were represented at the workshop in addition to 27 different units at Ohio State University. Speakers also represented Historically Black University, Central State, and Menominee Tribal College. You can read the report here<https://mesc.osu.edu/sites/default/files/2023-02/Report-on-food-sov-workshop-2022-10-13%2B14.pdf>. We hosted 4 Middle East Studies forums for faculty and students in Autumn semester, and 3 this semester, including a public one on April 19th, on Politics and Humanitarian Emergency in Turkey<https://mesc.osu.edu/events/politics-and-humanitarian-emergency-turkey>. We also co-sponsored NESA’s book talk “It Snows in this House<https://mesc.osu.edu/events/dr.-hamed-esmaeilion-his-book-it-snows-house>” and the History departments webinar “Women, Life, Freedom<https://history.osu.edu/events/women-life-freedom-iran-uprising-state-violence-wake-mahsaamini>” and Johanna Sellman’s book launch<https://mailchi.mp/b5fdd9149731/year-in-review-2022-from-mesc-5386037>. You can see all these and more on our Twitter feed: https://twitter.com/mesc_osu
Thank you for a great year. All of the team at MESC look forward to continuing these community-building efforts with all of you in the Fall!
Best wishes,

Melinda
