29th Annual Denman Undergraduate Research Forum
TDAI Ideation Zone, Pomerene Hall
Sessions start at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.
The Denman Undergraduate Research Forum is Ohio State's premier undergraduate research forum, celebrating the accomplishments of senior undergraduate student researchers. This year's forum will feature over 220 student presenters across four sessions and ten categories. The forum is open to all visitors who want to learn more about the exciting student research taking place at Ohio State.

Two Ohio State Marion students, neuroscience major Carson Artrip and psychology major Sally Willis will present their undergraduate research projects at this year's Denman Forum.

AWARDS

Seeking submission for the 2024 Digital Media Composition Award
We are currently seeking submissions for consideration in this year's Digital Media Composition Award. Nominations on behalf of faculty, as well as self-nominations, are encouraged and welcome. Submit nominations to the Ohio State Marion Writing Program Administrator, Ben McCorkle at mccorkle.12 at osu.edu<mailto:mccorkle.12 at osu.edu> by the deadline, Friday, March 8. Submissions should be submitted in a deliverable digital format (e.g., .jpg, .mp3, .mov, .swf, URL, etc.). Self-nominations are allowed. This award can be won by any student enrolled at Ohio State Marion. The submission can be produced as part of coursework in a particular class, or it could be produced independent of such coursework. Submissions produced for professional contexts (e.g., a web site developed for a private company as part of a freelance job) will not count. Works produced either alone or collaboratively will be considered.  The winner will receive a $100 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble Bookstores.
Accepting submissions for the Ohio State Marion Literary Awards Competition
Open to all Ohio State Marion students, entry deadline is March 18, at noon

  *   Fiction & Creative Nonfiction (The Narrative Prize) -- up to ten pages max.
  *   Poetry (The Lyric Prize) -- One poem* will be selected, although you can submit up to six poems per submission (with no more than one poem per page). *Note: Song Lyrics are acceptable, too.
  *   Judging will be done anonymously by a working writer who is not affiliated with OSU-Marion.
  *   One $100.00 prize in each genre.
  *   Cover sheet with your name, home, e-mail address, telephone number, and genre must be included.
  *   Please do not put your name or identifying information on any part of your submission beyond your cover sheet.
  *   Multiple entries in different genres may be submitted as long as you turn in a separate cover sheet for each submission.
  *   If you turn in a hard copy, make sure to secure your entries with a paper clip or binder clip - no staples! Entries that do not follow these instructions will be discarded.

Celebrating the impact of Pay It Forward
Stop by Maynard Hall's Guthery Community Room Thursday, Feb. 22 at 9:45 a.m. to join the United Way of North Central Ohio, who will present Ohio State Marion's Pay It Forward Buckeye Funder Campaign with a check to provide matching funds to funds already donated. There will be light refreshments available for those in attendance. Every dollar donated stays local to make a positive impact in Marion community and provides Ohio State Marion students with one-of-a-kind philanthropic service-learning experience. This evening will feature complimentary hors d 'oeuvres and desserts, and free access to view our Silk Road exhibit in the Kuhn Fine Arts Gallery. An expert curator will be available throughout the evening. The evening will conclude with a Five Nights performance beginning at 7:30 p.m. with popular folk-rock band, Ryanhood. Total Solar Eclipse Educational Series
The Eclipse that changed spacetime: The 1919 solar eclipse and Einstein's rise to fame
Ohio State Marion Professor of Physics, Dr. Chris Orban
Monday, March 18th at 12:30 p.m.
Ohio State Marion Professor Dr. Chris Orban will delve into the history of physics and explain why the observations conducted during the 1919 solar eclipse changed the way we think about space and time. Prior to that eclipse, Einstein's theory of relativity was still very new and untested, and Einstein himself was far from being a household name.  Enjoy the talk and if it's sunny Professor Orban will lead some solar observing afterwards!

Gods, Kings, Magicians & Scary Eclipses
Ohio State Marion Archaeologist, Art Historian and Professor Dr. Katie Rask
Thursday, March 21 at 12:30 p.m.
In this talk, archaeologist, art historian and professor Dr. Katie Rask reviews evidence for eclipses in antiquity and how people reacted to them. Most of the discussion will center on Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome, with a special emphasis on archaeological data. Interesting stories abound!

Monday, April 8, 2024
Tours will be available of the Marion Campus prairie to learn about plant species and about the impact of the eclipse on wildlife. The Ohio Division of Wildlife is asking us to help collect wildlife observations during the actual eclipse. Join us and help record animal observations during the eclipse!

REACH Suicide Prevention Training
Thu., Feb. 22, 3-4:30 p.m., Maynard Hall, Room 125
REACH is The Ohio State University suicide prevention training program to help individuals prevent suicide by them the how to:

- Recognize warning signs
- Engage with empathy
- Ask directly about suicide
- Communicate hope
- Help suicidal individuals to access care and treatment

Attention regional campus faculty, students, and staff: "Spark" grants for arts engagement
Over the next three years, the Office of Outreach and Engagement will offer "Spark" grants, funded by the Mellon Foundation, to Ohio State faculty, students and staff for engagement projects that center the arts, especially projects done in partnership with communities served by our regional campuses. During this first year of the program, grants will be funded to a maximum of $25,000. Applications are due April 12.

Call for proposals: Programs of Excellence in Engaged Scholarship
To support and promote high-impact engaged scholarship, the Office of Outreach and Engagement has instituted a process to certify programs of excellence in engaged scholarship. The certification process seeks to identify and certify up to 20 projects annually that demonstrate excellence in community-engaged scholarship and meet the criteria of high-impact engaged scholarship. Applications are due Feb. 28.

Submit a proposal for an Engagement Grant
The Office of Outreach and Engagement provides funding to faculty and/or faculty-led teams, and university staff that hold PI status with the annual Engagement Grants program. Grants are awarded at a maximum amount of $15,000 to support development of impact reports for programs, performances or exhibits; development of a public policy document or impact report; development or implementation of a program, performance, exhibition, or initiative based upon previous research, assessment, or community stakeholder/public input; or enhance or expand a program that extends community access to the university, broadly defined. Proposals are due March 4.

Applications open for the annual OSEP awards
In collaboration with Ohio State Energy Partners (OSEP), the Office of Academic Affairs has opened a call for grant proposals that align with the university's sustainability goals; align with advancing access, engagement and inclusive excellence goals; or provide research opportunities (in all disciplines) to students who have limited exposure to undergraduate research and experiential learning opportunities. Submissions are due March 11. Faculty, staff and students are eligible to apply. Awards range from $10,000 to $50,000.

Nominations sought for 2024-25 Ohio State Artist Laureate
The Office of Academic Affairs is seeking nominations for the 2024-25 Ohio State Artist Laureate. The program is designed to help the university achieve one of the main goals of its academic plan: to enhance impact through external engagement. The goal is to bring the arts to underserved communities across the state and to engage with those communities in shared experiences that will, ideally, enrich and inform audience and Laureate alike.
