Save the Date: 2018 International Festival
The 11th Annual Taste of Culture International Festival will be held on Thursday, April 5 from 4:30 - 8:00 p.m. A Taste of Culture played host to a multitude of informational booths, live entertainment, food from around the world, arts and crafts, and short educational discussions, bringing together the customs, traditions, color, and flavor of peoples from diverse ethnicities.
Nominations for the Student Environmental Citizenship Award
Do you know someone who demonstrates a commitment to environmentally-related causes? The Ohio State University at Marion's Prairie Advisory Committee invites faculty, staff, and students to nominate a student for the Student Environmental Citizenship Award.
Please send their name and a short description of the environmental citizenship to Joel Barker (barker.246 at osu.edu). The nomination period ends Friday, March 23.
Nikole Patson to receive a Distinguished Undergraduate Research Mentor Award
Ohio State Marion Associate Professor of Psychology Dr. Nikole Patson was recently named a 2018 recipient of The Ohio State University's Distinguished Undergraduate Research Mentor Award.
This award recognizes leadership and support research mentors provide to undergraduate students presenting at Ohio State's Annual Denman Undergraduate Research Forum. Award winners are nominated by undergraduates participating in the Denman Undergraduate Research Forum, and must demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentorship. A student committee reviews the nominations and selects winners each year.
Patson will be formally recognized on stage at the 2018 Denman Undergraduate Research Forum Awards Ceremony at the OSU Faculty Club on Friday, April 6.

Interactive Islamic Session with Dr. Khaled Kebbati
Join Dr. Kebbati, the Executive Director of the Noor Islamic Center in Dublin for an Interactive Islamic Session. Students have the opportunity to learn more about the rights and duties of women in an Islamic/Arabic culture.
Join Dr. Kebbati on Wednesday, Mar. 21 from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. in Morrill Hall, Room 290. Middle Eastern catering will be provided.
Ukrainian Culture: A Brief Overview
In preparation for the International Festival, students are invited to learn more about Ukrainian Culture with Dr. Marianna Klochko.
This event will take place Monday, April 2 from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. in Morrill Hall, Room 200.
Leadership Summit 2018: Featuring Mark Sanborn, author of The Potential Principle
The 2018 Leadership Summit is scheduled for Wednesday, March 28th, through a collaborative effort of several Ohio State University departments. The event will feature author Mark Sanborn, followed by a panel discussion of community leaders, highlighting the concept of leadership and engaging with participants about their own leadership experiences.
The featured keynote, Mark Sanborn, is an international bestselling author and renowned speaker as well as a national and local leader. He has written or co-authored eight books, and authored over two dozen videos and audio training programs on leadership, change, teamwork and customer service. An award-winning speaker, Mark has presented seminars and speeches across the U.S. and the globe. Mark's book, The Fred Factor: How Passion in Your Work and Life Can Turn the Ordinary into the Extraordinary, is an international bestseller. His most recent book, The Potential Principle, provides a blueprint for always improving and has been called "a must-read for high achievers!"
Following Mark Sanborn's keynote will be an expert panel of community and university leaders who will discuss and share their leadership insights. Gail Hogan, former co-anchor of NBC 4, will moderate the panelists, who include:
. Shannon Ginther, First Lady-City of Columbus and Chair of Columbus Women's Commission;
. Angela Cornelius Dawson, Executive Director of Ohio Commission on Minority Health; and,
. Dr. Anil K. Makhija, Dean and John W. Berry, Sr. Chair in Business of The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business.
Breakfast is included and attendees will be welcomed by Dr. Kay Newlon Wolf, Vice Provost for Academic Policy & Faculty Resources at Ohio State. The event is scheduled from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm at the Ohio Union at The Ohio State University - Columbus.

Your Design Could be the Wallpaper for 10,000+ iPad Pro Devices
Digital Flagship is excited to announce an opportunity for students with art and design interests to have their work featured on the home screens of the largest 1:1 technology implementation in higher education.

Get the facts about drugs and alcohol. Students are invited to the Alber Student Center on Wednesday, April 11 from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. to gain knowledge about drugs and alcohol. Students will play What is a Drink, wear the beer goggles, play trivia, win prizes, and enjoy mocktails.

Ohio State Climbs in 2018 Peace Corps Rankings
Ohio State has moved up three spots to be ranked No. 6 on the Peace Corps' 2018 list of top-producing colleges and universities. Currently, 62 Ohio State graduates serve in the Peace Corps in 33 countries around the world.
Since 1961, 1,821 Buckeyes have served overseas in areas of agriculture, environment and natural resources, education and community development. The Office of International Programs in Agriculture in the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences oversees Peace Corps recruitment at Ohio State.

"Totally Tubular: Engineering Steel Tubing" An Engineering Seminar Series
Joshua Rovai, the production superintendent at ArcelorMittal in Marion is the star of our next Engineering Seminar.
The discussion will include speaking about Mr. Rovai's educational background and current job as a Production Superintendent (Operations Manager) and his past job as a Manufacturing/Process/Design Engineer. Mr. Rovai will also talk about what classes Engineering Students are taking in school and which ones will apply most to industrial engineering in the real world. Mr. Rovai will also talk about how many doors will open with a degree in engineering and he will discuss the ArcelorMittal facility in Marion.
Join Joshua Rovai on Friday, March 23 at 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in the Science and Engineering Building, Room 205 for a great discussion.

Students are invited to attend a reading in the student center from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. featuring Ohio State Marion students enrolled in campus writing classes. Dr. Ben McCorkle will be emceeing this event as students read selections of their work. Light refreshments will be served.
This event will be held on Wednesday, March 21 and is sponsored by the Office of Student Life.
Literary Awards Competition 2018
All Ohio State Marion students are welcome to enter their literary creations in this year's Literary Awards Competition. Entries are due Wednesday, March 21 at 12:00 to the receptionist in Academic Enrichment at Morrill Hall, Room 216. The winner will receive $100 to Barnes & Noble Bookstore. Below are submission specifications and rules. Good luck to all students!
Students may submit:
Fiction and creative nonfiction (The Narrative Prize) - 10 page maximum
Poetry (The Lyric Prize) - One poem will be selected, although you can submit up to six poems per submission (with no more than one poem per page).
A cover sheet with your name, home and email addresses, phone number, and genre must be included on all submitted works. Multiple entries in different genres may be submitted as long as you turn in a separate cover sheet for each submission.
PLEASE- DO NOT PUT YOUR NAME OR IDENTIFYING INFORMATION ON ANY OTHER PART OF YOUR SUMBISSION BEYOND YOUR COVER SHEET! It is also asked that you do not submit your entries on double-sided pages. Entries must be secured with a paper clip or binder clip-- no staples! Entries that do not follow these instructions will be discarded.
Please keep copies of your work, as manuscripts will not be returned.
Renovations coming to Ohio State Marion
Completion of Ohio State Marion's new Science and Engineering Building didn't put an end to improvements on the Marion campus. Coming this spring and summer are projects worth nearly six and a half million dollars that will improve access to the campus, instructional facilities, recreation, and student life. Alina Kiryayeva to Return for Five Nights on Campus
We are pleased to welcome back to our stage the gifted pianist, Alina Kiryayeva. Her last performance for Five Nights on Campus earned her a standing ovation! Praised for her powerful command of the instrument, unique interpretations and clarity of sound, her new program features three sonatas and a rhapsody composed by Ludwig van Beethoven, Frederic Chopin, Franz Liszt, and Sergei Prokofiev.
Kiryayeva's performance will take place on Thursday, Mar. 8 from 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. Doors open at the Morrill Hall Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale in advance in Maynard Hall, Room 240 and at the door. 2018 Brain Health Hack
Join the Stanley D. and Joan H. Ross Center for Brain Health and Performance, Ohio State's Neurological Research Institute and Ohio State's Chronic Brain Injury Discovery Theme for the first Brain Health Hack on March 24-25. The weekend long event will focus on building and creating real projects to help address various brain health and performance research and clinical needs.
Students Can Apply Now for 2018 Classes at Ohio State's Stone Lab
Applications are open now for 2018 classes and workshops at Stone Laboratory, The Ohio State University's island campus on Lake Erie. Students can earn two college credits in one week or four credits in five weeks in summer science classes on subjects such as aquatic biology, behavioral ecology and field zoology, getting up close with the plants, animals, geography and ecosystem of Lake Erie.
Introductory courses are open to college undergraduates in any major, while the wide-variety of upper level courses are ideal for science majors looking for practical experience in their chosen field. Stone Lab awards more than $40,000 in scholarships each year.
