10th Annual International Festival

Alber Student Center
The Ohio State University at Marion hosts A Taste of Culture International Festival annually each spring. A Taste of Culture plays host to a multitude of informational booths, live entertainment, food from around the world, arts and crafts, and short educational discussions. Bringing together the customs, traditions, color, and flavors of peoples from diverse ethnicities highlights what organizers feel makes the event successful each year. Admission for this annual event is free and open to the public. Launched in 2008, 500-700 area residents attend this Ohio State Marion event each year.
Local vendors, restauranteurs, and community members provide samplings of food representative of ethnic cuisines from across the globe. Donations are encouraged for purchase of food tickets to sample the food on hand. Proceeds benefit minority scholarships at Ohio State Marion.
For more information or to get involved with A Taste of Culture, contact Shawn Jackson in the Ohio State University at Marion Office of Student Life and Diversity/Inclusion at 740-725-6219 or email jackson.368 at osu.edu.<mailto:jackson.368 at osu.edu>

OTHER HEADLINES
Norman Thomas Memorial Lecture
Tuesday, April 11, 12 p.m.
Maynard Hall, Guthery Community Room
"Civil Liberties in the Age of Trump" presented by Mike Brickner, Senior Policy Director for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) was founded in 1920 to ensure the promise of the Bill of Rights and to expand its reach to people historically denied its protections. In The ACLU's first year, it fought the harassment and deportation of immigrants whose activism put them at odds with the authorities. In 1939, the ACLU won in the Supreme Court the right for unions to organize. The ACLU stood almost alone in 1942 in denouncing the U.S. government's round-up and internment in concentration camps of more than 110,000 Japanese-Americans. And at times in U.S. history when frightened civilians have been willing to give up some of their freedoms and rights in the name of national security, the ACLU has been the bulwark for liberty.
The ACLU has grown from a roomful of civil libertarians to more than 1 million members, activists, and supporters across the country. The ACLU is now a nationwide organization with a 50-state network of staffed affiliate offices filing cases in both state and federal courts. The ACLU appears before the Supreme Court more than any other organization except the Department of Justice. Mike Brickner, Senior Policy Director, will discuss the various immigration orders, the use of private prisons, the setbacks we have seen with the Departments of Justice and Education, etc, as well as the important current work of the ACLU.
The event will be followed by a lunch in the Dean's Board Room from 1-2p.m.
