Information Session for 2014 Canadian Parliament Internship Program
On Thursday, Oct. 3, there will be an information session for students interested in taking part in the 2014 Canadian Parliament Internship Program. You can learn more about the program through OIA athttp://oia.osu.edu/getting-started/search-programs.html and at the program website athttp://www.bakerincanada.com/ (NOTE: the cost listed at Dr. Baker’s website does NOT reflect the cost for Ohio State Students…. Come to the meeting for details.)

The info session will begin at 5:30 pm and will be held in 206 Denney Hall. The program director, Dr. James Baker, will be on campus to discuss the program and field questions. Also present will be past alumni of the program, as well as Dr. Randall Ripley, who teaches the Canadian Politics course during winter quarter, and Leslie Anderson from OIA to answer questions about study abroad.

As the alumni will attest, this is a wonderful opportunity for students desiring an internship. The offices of members of the Canadian Parliament operate a bit differently than offices for members of the U.S. Congress. Students that have gone to Ottawa have found that they are often one of only four people working in the office, including the legislator him/herself. This provides a more fulfilling experience than a D.C. internship where you are often one of 25-30 office workers and you never get to see, let alone meet the member of Congress.

The program runs from May 10 to June 14, 2014

Students taking part in the program are REQUIRED to register for Political Science 4270 (The Canadian Political System) and POLITSC 4193 with Dr. Ripley during spring semester (If you already have credit for 4270 you’re good to go!).

POLITSC 4270 Tues/Thurs 2:20-3:40 class #25780 (3 credit hours)

POLITSC 4193 Mondays 12:10 – 2pm March 3-April 21 class # 25770 (3 credit hours--contact Dr. Ripley (.1) to enroll)

Students will receive an additional three semester hours of credit for the internship itself. No RSVPs are necessary…just show up on Oct. 3!The program is open to students from all majors.
