Science Café Talks Fab Labs
Due to inclement weather, rescheduled for March 12th, 7 p.m.
Join David Richardson of Lorain County Community College on Tuesday, March 12, at 7 p.m. at the Infinity Restaurant, 267 W. Center Street, Marion, OH for our March Science Café, Fab Labs: Fabricating the Future.
Fab Labs are digital fabrication laboratories which use computers and tools that let (almost) anyone make (almost) anything. Fab Labs began at the turn of the century as outreach by MIT’s Center for Bits & Atoms. Its director, Prof. Neil Gershenfeld, created a community Lab in South Boston and cloned it outside the U.S. in Third World societies. Since then, more than 125 Fab Labs have taken root, about half of them in the United States. A flagship Fab Lab is at Ohio’s Lorain County Community College. It opened in June 2005 and was the first in the U.S. outside MIT. Like the fabled Bell Labs, Fab Labs encourage creativity, risk-taking, and strategic planning. For more information, see http://fab.cba.mit.edu/about/faq/
Prof. David Richardson is the Initiator and Director for Outreach for the United States Fab Lab Network. At this science café he will talk about The ABC’s of Fab and their use in education, business, and (especially) community development.
Author & Poet to Visit Campus
Nationally recognized author and poet Doug Ramspeck will visit The Ohio State University at Marion Tuesday, March 19, 12:10-1:05 p.m., for a free public reading of his work in the main lobby of the Alber Student Center.

The Lima appointment is temporary and subject to approval by The Ohio State University Board of Trustees, the interim dean appointment will become effective July 1, 2013. >>> READ THE FULL STORY<http://osumarion.osu.edu/news/marion-campus-dean-serve-university-dual-roles>
