OSU Wireless Coming to Marion Campus
Connection instructions and information below
On Friday an email was sent out notifying the community that OSU Wireless has been installed on the Marion Campus and will be turned on December 18th. It is recommended that we do not run both the old Marion wireless and the new OSU Wireless at the same time. So, around 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 18th, the old Marion wireless public and student wireless will be shut down. Please watch for more communications regarding the activation of OSU Wireless.

In the meantime, any device that you want to connect to the new OSU Wireless on the Marion campus must be configured to do so. Instructions for how to configure your wireless device are available at the following website:

https://osuitsm.service-now.com/selfservice/kb_view.do?sysparm_article=kb01111

We highly recommend that you download and run the wireless configuration utility for your device BEFORE TUESDAY, December 18th. This utility will automatically configure your device to connect to the OSU Wireless on the Marion campus. The utility is available here:

https://osuitsm.service-now.com/selfservice/kb_view.do?sysparm_article=kb03033

Once configured, you will be able to access OSU Wireless on any Ohio State campus or department that has OSU Wireless installed. You may choose to download the utility and keep it on your computer or a usb key to run on other devices if needed.

If you attend classes at the Delaware Partnership Location, Ohio State Columbus campus or any other campus/department, and already connect to OSU Wireless; you should not need to run the configuration utility or configure any settings to connect on or after Tuesday.

General information on OSU Wireless can be found here: http://wireless.osu.edu/

The IT Department plans to have handouts with instructions on how to connect to OSU Wireless available. Those handouts will be distributed to key areas on campus where students can get general information already (Morrill Hall Front Desk, Maynard Front Desk, Library, General Computer Lab in the Library Classroom Building Room 220, Advising, Human Resources, etc...)

If you have any questions, please feel free to visit the General Computer Lab in the Library Classroom Building, Room 220 or call 740-725-6329 if you need help connecting to the wireless.

Spring Semester Course Advertisements

Sociology 2345 – Contemporary American Society: Consumption Culture
Dr. Klochko; TR 4:15-5:35 p.m.
Consumption- the purchase, use and exchange of products and services- is an essential feature of our everyday lives, yet we seldom examine its meaning and importance. This course reviews key theoretical perspectives on the nature and meaning of consumption as well as recent research on consumer culture in the US. Students will be exposed to discussions on topics of conspicuous consumption, cultural capital and leisure class. We will step back from buying behaviors and look at the ways in which members of American society are motivated to consume. We will study how consumer culture gets expressed in various realms of everyday life, including tourism, fashion, health, housing and food.

Theatre 2100: Introduction to Theatre
Spring 2013: T and Th 5:45 p.m.-7:05 p.m., M and W 7:15 p.m.-8:35p.m.
Instructor: Pamela Decker
Fulfills 2 GEC's (visual and performing arts, social diversity in US)
Did you enjoy participating in theatre in high school? Love watching plays? Always been curious about theatre but unsure about performing in front of others? Intro to Theatre can give everyone—previous theatre performers, those who are interested but inexperienced, and those who just want to learn more about theatre—a chance to become more familiar with the history and methods of live theatrical performance. Discussion, lecture, and film viewing combined with on-your-feet theatrical games and exercises will make up the content of in-class time. Learn about theatrical production roles such as actors, directors, designers, and many others in this introductory course.

Young Adult Novels Course Fulfills Gen Ed
Literature for Adolescents - EDU T&L 3356, spring semester
Associate Professor of Education, Linda Parsons
You probably know about Harry Potter, Twilight, and the Hunger Games and may even be a fan of one or more of them. Do you know what they all have in common? They're all young adult novels. If you'd like to explore other young adult titles, EDU T&L 3356 - Literature for Adolescents may be the course for you. In addition to introducing you to great literature, the course also fulfills a gen ed requirement. It doesn't get any better than that!

New Course Offering in Psychology!
PSYCH 4554: Language Development
Spring 2013 T and Th: 1:15- 2:35 PM
Instructor: Dr. Nikole Patson-Huffman

Learning language is one of the milestones in children’s development. Infants produce their first words by the end of the first year. In their second year, they talk in short sentences. We usually take language for granted. However, language learning is a tough task—as you are perhaps discovering as you fulfill your foreign language requirement! So how do infants achieve this task and make it look so simple? In this course we will discuss the following topics:

  * Are babies biologically “programmed” to learn language?
  * How do babies learn the specific sounds of their language?
  * How do babies learn the meanings of words?
  * How do babies learn to put words together into sentences?
  * How is a bilingual baby’s language development different from a baby learning only one language?
  * How do children learn to read?
  * How is language learning different in children who are hearing- or visually- impaired?
  * How is language learning different in children with autism?

The only prerequisite for this course is Psych 1100. This course counts as a Sequenced Advance Course for Psychology Majors, but only if you have already completed the prerequisite (PSYCH 3550/550, Psychology of Childhood OR PSYCH 3371/371, Language and the Mind).
