The Mathematics of Juggling at The Next Science Café
Tuesday, June 5, 7 p.m., Harding Hotel, 267 W. Center Street, downtown Marion
Guest Speaker: John Maharry, Department of Mathematics, The Ohio State University
Students, faculty, staff, and the community-at-large are invited to join Ohio State Marion's own John Maharry as he discusses, "The Mathematics of Juggling, at our next Science Café. Mathematicians often seem to have an affinity for juggling. Ask around at a mathematics conference and you will find a large number of jugglers. So it is natural that some mathematicians began to study the patterns that arise (or cannot arise) when juggling. In the 1980’s, various mathematicians developed a simple notation for describing complicated juggling patterns. This Science Café takes a look at a variety of juggling patterns and the surprising (simple) mathematics that comes out of it. In this talk, it is likely that the juggling will be more difficult than the mathematics.
