The Center for Ethnic Studies and the Latinx Studies Program will celebrate Latinx Heritage Month with a variety of activities:

Parade and Festival

Latinx Studies faculty and friends will kick off the month this Saturday, September 16th by marching in the Latino Heritage Month parade. It kicks off at 11 am at Civic Center Drive and Rich Street, turns left on High Street towards Broad Street, then turns left on Broad and ends at Broad Street between Marconi Blvd. and Civic Center Drive. Day of the Dead Festival

OSU is partnering with the Latino Arts for Humanity to celebrate Day of the Dead Columbus on Saturday, October 7th from 10 am to 6 pm at Greenlawn Cemetery. The festival is a cultural and family event to remember and celebrate the loved ones who are no longer with us. There will be art exhibits, living altar performances, ofrendas, arts and crafts vendors, activities for children (including free face painting!), calavera poetry workshops, Aztec dance, opportunities to learn about Day of the Dead and much more.

The event is free and open to the public. Free transportation will be available throughout the day from the Ohio Union (12th Ave loop) to Greenlawn Cemetery. The first bus leaves the Union at 9:30 am, with the last bus leaving Greenlawn at 6 pm. For more information, go to our event page.<https://ethnicstudies.osu.edu/events/day-dead-columbus>

The contest, aimed at children and teens in grades K-12, introduces the holiday of Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, and strives to strengthen the relationship between Ohio State and Latinx culture. Prizes vary by category, and include Ohio State swag, tickets to various OSU sports events and tickets to the Columbus Museum of Art. Two winners will be selected from each category, with 10 winners total. Entries are due Oct. 7.
