[KineJapan] permission for using stills

Hi Earl,

I can't speak to how fair use is handled in Taiwan, but if you are aiming to publish in Japan it can be very difficult to argue for this. Everybody simply bows to the rights holders and their lobbyists.

If you search the KineJapan archive for messages from me, you'll find two lengthy threads on this topic, with suggestions from Aaron and Markus on dealing with Japanese publishers.

You might want to consider shopping for a different publisher that simply recognizes the phrase "fair use", or else hire somebody to deal with Shochiku and Toho.

Good luck,

Most are Shochiku and some are Toho. I would deeply appreciate any advice on how I go about this, or on how to make a convincing case that including such stills are protected by Fair Use considerations.
