[Intl_DxMedPhys] Tech - less cath labs

Ohio allows RN’s and CV techs to move the C-arm, position the patient, and reset the 5-minute timer. The facility is trying to use this carve-out to their advantage.

I’m currently pointing out all the tech functions that they may not have thought about: communicating with service engineers, understanding the fine details of how the equipment operates, performing QC testing, identifying equipment issues, understanding, record keeping, and following up on patient cumulative air kerma data. The list goes on. I think I can kill this.

Thanks, Bob.

In NY state, the RT scope of practice includes patient positioning and adjusting the image receptor distance. Citing this helped me convince my client not to eliminate RT’s.

You may want to look closely at the OH regs from this angle, Bob.

Good luck

Hi folks.

One of my sites is planning to eliminate X-ray technologists from their cath lab staff, which necessitates having the cardiologists press all the buttons. At this site, I am the IRRP (In the Ohio language, a person like the RSO, but for radiation-generating equipment and not RAM). Given that I have this responsibility, I’m concerned about cardiologists getting lazy and having the nurses press buttons, thereby resulting in a Level 1 violation. Have any of you ever worked with a cath lab that had no techs? If so, how’d that work out?

Thanks
