[Intl_DxMedPhys] Tech - less cath labs

I was approached about this from a Cath Lab Manager and as then RSO at my former institution, I managed to dissuade him. We had just implemented a model fluoroscopy radiation safety program and I was concerned we would backslide.
This is an example of where we can advocate for more restrictive regulations if we really think it requires an individual with X-Ray tech training to operate a Fluoro unit. I do. Even our well-trained X-Ray techs had some gaps in their understanding of fluoro radiation safety prior to implementing annual training.

At this site, I am the IRRP (In the Ohio language, a person like the RSO, but for radiation-generating equipment and not RAM). Given that I have this responsibility, I’m concerned about cardiologists getting lazy and having the nurses press buttons, thereby resulting in a Level 1 violation. Have any of you ever worked with a cath lab that had no techs? If so, how’d that work out?
